China Rare Earth Exports Hit 6-Month High in July

China’s exports of rare earth magnets surged nearly 75% from the previous month to a six-month high of 5,577 metric tons in July 2025, highlighting a return to pre-restriction levels before the country imposed export curbs. The rebound followed a series of deals reached in June between China and both the US and Europe aimed at reopening the rare earth trade. These agreements came after Chinese export controls introduced in April—at the height of trade tensions—disrupted global supply chains and forced production halts at some auto factories. In April and May, rare earth exports had plunged due to lengthy approval processes required for export licenses. Data from the General Administration of Customs released on Wednesday showed that exports to the US jumped 75.5% compared to June, while shipments to Germany soared 46% to 1,116 tons, maintaining its status as the top destination.
