Gold Bar Imports Hit by U.S. Tariff Shift

The U.S. has imposed tariffs on imports of one-kilo gold bars, according to a July 31 letter from Customs and Border Protection cited by the Financial Times. The directive reclassifies one-kilo and 100-ounce gold bars under a customs code that subjects them to tariff levels. The move could significantly affect Switzerland, the world’s largest gold refining hub, which exports large volumes of refined bullion to the U.S.
