The BSE Sensex fell 366 points, or 0.4%, to 81,827 on Friday, extending losses from the previous session and hitting its lowest level since mid-June. The Nifty 50 also declined 0.5%, slipping below the 25,000 mark, weighed down primarily by the tech and financial services sectors. Financial services dropped 0.4%, with Bajaj Finance slumping 5% after its Q1 results were downgraded by JP Morgan. Bajaj Finserv also plunged 4.8% ahead of its earnings release later today. Meanwhile, tech stocks fell 0.5%, dragged down by declines in Infosys (–1.3%) and Power Grid (–1.0%). Traders also focused on upcoming Q1 earnings from Shriram Finance, Bank of Baroda, and Tata Chemicals, all set to report today. Lingering uncertainty surrounding US–India trade talks ahead of the August 1 deadline continued to weigh on sentiment. For the week, the Sensex is on track for a flat performance, following three consecutive weeks of declines.
