Swiss Producer and Import Prices Drop the Most in 5 Months

Switzerland’s producer and import prices dropped by 0.7% year-on-year in May 2025, slipping further from a 0.5% fall in the previous month. This marked the 25th consecutive period of decline and the steepest since December 2024, as import costs decreased at a faster pace (-2.9% vs -1.8% in April). Meanwhile, producer prices increased by 0.4% after a flat reading in the prior month. On a monthly basis, producer and import prices fell by 0.5% in May, defying expectations and reversing the preceding period’s 0.1% increase. The decrease was driven mainly by lower petroleum prices, with electricity, basic metals, and natural gas also cheaper.
