UK Construction Output Declines Slightly in June

The S&P Global UK Construction PMI rose to 48.8 in June 2025 from 47.9 in May, still below the 50.0 threshold that separates growth from contraction. Residential building returned to modest growth (50.7), but this was outweighed by steeper declines in commercial (45.1) and civil engineering (44.2) activity. New orders fell for the sixth straight month, with firms citing weak demand, fewer tenders, and cautious client spending. Business confidence dropped to its lowest level since December 2022. Employment continued to decline amid cost-cutting efforts. Purchasing activity fell, though at the slowest rate in five months, and supplier performance improved. Input cost inflation persisted but eased to its softest level since January.
