UK Manufacturing Output Rebounds in June
Manufacturing production in the UK rose by 0.5% month-over-month in June 2025, marching market estimates and rebounding from a 1% decline in the previous month. The upturn was driven by expansions seen in the output of 8 out of 13 subsectors, with the largest positive contribution primarily coming from the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (8.8% vs -0.3% in May). Additionally, production increased for coke and refined petroleum products (2.7% vs -0.4%), chemicals and chemical products (0.7% vs -2.5%), and food products, beverages and tobacco (0.4% vs -0.5%). Meanwhile, activity declined for basic pharmaceutical products and preparations (-1.1% vs -6.4%) and machinery and equipment not elsewhere classified (-1% vs 3.1%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing output showed no growth in June, after a 1% gain in the preceding period.
