UK New Car Sales Rise 6.7% in June

UK new car sales rose 6.7% year-on-year in June 2025 to 191,316 units, marking a second straight month of growth and the strongest June performance since 2019, driven mainly by fleet demand, which surged 8.5% to 114,841 units.

Private retail sales grew 5.9% to 71,616 units but accounted for just 37.4% of the market—less than four in ten new cars. Business registrations declined by 15.8% to 4,859 units. Petrol registrations fell 4.2% and diesel remained flat (+0.2%), with their combined share now at 51.6%. Electrified vehicles gained ground, reaching 92,571 units and a 48.5% market share. Plug-in models led growth: battery electric vehicles (BEVs) jumped 39.1% to 47,354 units (24.8% of the market), while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) rose 28.8% to 21,382 units. In contrast, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) saw an 8.5% drop to 23,835 units.
