China’s foreign exchange reserves rose by USD 4.9 billion to USD 3.405 trillion in October 2026, marking a 0.14% increase from USD 3.400 trillion in September. Global macroeconomic data, monetary policies and expectations in major economies, a stronger US dollar, and fluctuations in the prices of major global financial assets likely influenced the increase through currency translation and asset valuations. Meanwhile, the People’s Bank of China continued to add to its gold holdings for the 24th consecutive month, with reserves rising slightly to 78.30 million fine troy ounces in October from 77.47 million in September. However, the value of these holdings fell to USD 306.41 billion, down from USD 323.52 billion a month earlier, due to lower gold prices.
