Australia’s export prices increased 1.4% quarter-on-quarter in Q3 2026, following a 1.1% rise in the previous quarter, marking the fourth consecutive quarterly increase. It was the fastest increase since Q4 2025, boosted primarily by a 28.6% jump in natural and manufactured gas. Meanwhile, coal, coke and briquettes prices rose 4.8%, driven by rising metallurgical coal prices amid constrained supply as Chinese mines faced safety inspections and restricted production quotas. Cereals and cereal preparations advanced 5.7%, as wheat and barley prices came under pressure from disrupted production and trade flows in Ukraine and Russia. However, these increases were partly offset by declines in metalliferous ores and metal scrap (-6.4%), weighed down by stronger export volumes from Australia and Brazil, and gold, non-monetary (-4.8%), amid tightening monetary policy. In the year to Q3, export prices rose 6.3%.
