Rainfall during the flowering stage is particularly important. Somar Meteorologia reported that Brazil’s Minas Gerais region received 48.6 mm of rain during the week ended October 18, equivalent to 148% of its historical average.
Minas Gerais is Brazil’s principal arabica-growing region. Adequate rainfall during flowering can support the development of the next crop and improve production prospects.
While these conditions are currently bearish for arabica prices, excessive rainfall can also disrupt agricultural operations and contribute to uneven crop development. Traders will therefore monitor both rainfall totals and the subsequent development of flowers and cherries.

The country’s National Statistics Office reported that September coffee exports rose 53% year-on-year to 124,000 MT. Exports during January–September 2026 increased 16.2% year-on-year to 1.45 MMT.
Vietnam’s coffee exports also increased 17.5% in 2025 to 1.58 MMT, demonstrating the strength of recent supply flows.
Production forecasts reinforce this trend. Vietnam’s 2025/26 coffee crop is projected to increase 6% year-on-year to 1.76 MMT, equivalent to approximately 29.4 million bags, which would represent a four-year high.
These figures suggest that robusta supply is currently more abundant than the inventory situation alone might indicate. Higher exports and production can increase availability to international buyers and reduce pressure on prices.
However, the market must also consider the potential impact of El Niño. If drought develops across Vietnam’s Central Highlands later in the year or in early 2027, the current supply outlook could deteriorate.
For now, the combination of rising inventories and strong exports gives robusta a more clearly bearish near-term fundamental backdrop than arabica.
Colombia Coffee Production: Lower Output Supports Arabica
Colombia’s weaker production and exports provide a counterweight to the broader global supply outlook.
The Colombian Coffee Federation reported that production during the 2025/26 coffee year, running from October to September, fell 15% year-on-year to 12.65 million bags.
Exports also declined 12% to 11.78 million bags.
Colombia is the world’s second-largest arabica producer, making its production performance important to the global arabica balance.
Lower output and exports can tighten availability of Colombian beans and partly offset expectations for a larger Brazilian harvest. This is supportive for arabica, particularly if other producing countries experience adverse weather.

Global arabica production is expected to increase 12%, while robusta production is forecast to decline 0.7%.
The USDA also expects world ending stocks to rise by 1.9 million bags to 26.3 million bags.
These projections indicate that the expected increase in arabica production could outweigh the modest decline in robusta output, leaving the global market with a substantially larger overall crop.
The USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service separately forecast a record Brazilian crop of 71.9 million bags for 2026/27, up 14% year-on-year.
The Brazilian estimate differs from Conab’s 2026 forecast of 67.6 million bags because the estimates refer to different forecast periods and may use different methodologies. They should not be treated as directly interchangeable figures.
