US heating oil prices remain under pressure below $4.60 per gallon as traders weigh the prospect of increased fuel supplies against continuing geopolitical risks to global energy markets. Expectations of additional diesel supplies from Russia, a possible Russia–Ukraine energy ceasefire and calls for governments to accelerate fuel releases are easing some supply concerns.

However, the outlook remains uncertain. Renewed attacks on Saudi infrastructure and tanker incidents near the Strait of Hormuz continue to threaten critical energy routes, while efforts to restore offshore production in the Gulf of Mexico following Hurricane Isaias could influence near-term supply expectations.

For the coming sessions, heating oil is likely to remain sensitive to developments in Russian fuel exports, Middle Eastern security and the pace of recovery in US energy production.

Market Snapshot

1. Russian Fuel Supply Expectations Weigh on Heating Oil

Heating oil has come under renewed pressure as traders assess the possibility that more diesel could reach international markets. President Donald Trump has claimed that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said he is awaiting further details and Russia has yet to comment.

The market is also assessing Trump’s earlier statement that Russia had agreed to supply diesel to global markets, alongside the US administration’s temporary easing of sanctions on Russian fuel.

If these measures translate into additional, deliverable supplies, they could ease competition for middle distillates and reduce the risk premium embedded in heating oil prices. However, announcements alone do not guarantee a sustained increase in exports. Traders will need confirmation of the arrangements, shipment volumes and actual delivery schedules before treating the additional supply as established.

2. IEA Calls for Additional Diesel Supplies

International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol has urged governments to accelerate planned diesel releases and consider measures to increase available supplies.

Such steps could help alleviate short-term tightness if inventories and distribution networks can deliver fuel to the regions that need it. For heating oil, the impact will depend on the volume released, the timing of deliveries and whether additional supply offsets disruptions elsewhere.

The market may therefore respond more strongly to confirmed stock releases and export data than to policy statements alone. Evidence of improving availability would reinforce the bearish case, while delays or smaller-than-expected releases could limit further price declines.

3. Middle East Security Keeps a Risk Premium in Play

The prospect of greater fuel availability is being counterbalanced by renewed strikes on Saudi civilian infrastructure and reported tanker attacks near the Strait of Hormuz.

The Strait is a critical route for global energy shipments. Any escalation that disrupts shipping, raises insurance costs or delays deliveries could quickly reverse the market’s supply-driven weakness.

Heating oil may be particularly sensitive to a combination of tighter middle-distillate availability and rising crude oil prices. Even if Russian supplies increase, traders could reassess the outlook if attacks spread, tanker movements are interrupted or regional producers face operational disruption.

The key distinction for the coming sessions is whether additional supply can reach the market faster than geopolitical risks restrict existing flows.

4. Gulf of Mexico Production Recovery

Energy producers in the Gulf of Mexico are working to restore offshore output after Hurricane Isaias made landfall. The pace of recovery will help determine whether the storm creates a lasting supply shortfall or only a temporary disruption.

A faster return to normal production would support the view that supply conditions are improving, adding to the pressure on heating oil. A slower recovery, particularly if accompanied by logistical problems or further severe weather, could provide a degree of support.

Traders will be watching for updates on restored production, infrastructure damage and any continuing interruptions to transport or refining operations.

Technical Outlook: Heating Oil Below $4.60

Heating oil remains below $4.60 per gallon, keeping the near-term tone cautious. However, without verified current chart data, specific support and resistance levels cannot be established reliably. The $4.60 area should be treated as a reference point from the supplied market report, rather than a confirmed technical barrier.

Bearish scenario: Prices could extend their decline if Russian fuel shipments are confirmed, government diesel releases accelerate and Gulf of Mexico production returns without major complications. Continued trading below $4.60 would be consistent with this supply-driven pressure, although further weakness would need confirmation from price action.

Bullish scenario: Heating oil could rebound if attacks on energy infrastructure or shipping disrupt regional flows, Russian supply commitments fail to materialise, or US offshore production recovery proves slower than expected. A sustained move back above $4.60 would warrant attention, but would not alone confirm a broader trend reversal.

Neutral scenario: Prices could consolidate while traders wait for clearer evidence on Russian exports, the proposed ceasefire, diesel availability and the restoration of US production.

Heating Oil Forecast for the Coming Sessions

The near-term bias remains cautious to bearish while the prospect of greater fuel availability dominates market sentiment. The combination of potential Russian diesel supplies, proposed stock releases and recovering Gulf of Mexico production could ease supply concerns and leave prices vulnerable to further losses.

Nevertheless, the outlook is far from one-sided. The reported energy ceasefire has yet to be fully clarified, and Middle Eastern security risks could quickly outweigh the benefits of additional supplies. The market is likely to react to confirmation of physical shipments and production recovery rather than announcements alone.

Over the coming sessions, three developments will be especially important:

• Russian fuel flows: Confirmation of export volumes and delivery schedules would strengthen the case for lower prices.
• Middle East security: Any disruption to tanker traffic or energy infrastructure could trigger a rapid recovery.
• US production recovery: Evidence that Gulf of Mexico output is returning to normal would reduce concerns about regional supply constraints.

Unless supply improvements are confirmed and geopolitical risks ease, heating oil may remain volatile, with a downward bias that could be interrupted by sudden risk-driven rallies.

Analysis — Louis Roche, Today Markets

Heating oil is caught between the prospect of improving supply and the risk of renewed energy-market disruption. The latest announcements have encouraged traders to price in a more comfortable supply outlook, but the distinction between promised and delivered fuel remains important.

A sustained decline would be more credible if Russian diesel shipments increase, government releases progress and US production normalises. Conversely, renewed disruption around the Strait of Hormuz or Saudi energy infrastructure could quickly change the balance.

For now, the market outlook leans bearish, but confidence in that direction depends on tangible evidence of improving supply. Traders and businesses should remain alert to sharp reversals as new information emerges.

Currency Hedger View

Heating oil is influenced by more than its own supply and demand. Changes in crude oil prices, shipping costs, geopolitical risk and the US dollar can affect energy-market pricing and the cost of international fuel purchases. Businesses exposed to cross-border energy payments should consider both commodity-price volatility and the currency risk attached to their transactions.
