Japan’s 10-year government bond yield held steady around 2.77% on Wednesday, remaining close to three-month lows as investors favored safer assets amid continued weakness in technology and artificial intelligence stocks and growing political uncertainty in the US. Early midterm election polls suggested a possible Democratic takeover of both chambers of Congress, raising concerns over tighter AI regulations, increased corporate oversight and potentially reduced government spending. Meanwhile, market participants are awaiting Japan’s wage data due later this week for additional clues on the Bank of Japan’s monetary policy outlook. Last week, the BOJ maintained its benchmark interest rate at 1.25% but indicated that underlying inflation had reached its 2% target, potentially creating room for a rate hike as early as December.
